go green with hari bhari daal !!

HARI BHARI DAAL

When it comes to healthy eating green vegetables is  the first thing which comes to our mind...so I make an effort to try out new versions and ways of eating greens. One of the most common being spinach which makes great curries, breads, pies and snacks.
So this time I tried mixing it with lentils so as to make a healthy portion with rice.It actually came out pretty well with wholesome nutrition and bagful of flavors.
So here's my recipe of this nutritious Hari Bhari Daal !

Ingredients

1 cup Split  Moong dal (chhilke wali )
1 cup Spinach(chopped)
1 Onion(chopped)
1 Tomato(chopped)
3 garlic cloves (chopped)
1 inch ginger (chopped)
1 pinch asafoetida
2 cloves crushed
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
3 green chillies(chopped)
1 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp dhaniya powder
Salt and red chilli powder to taste
Ghee

Method

Soak dal in two cups of water for an hour. Pressure cook with turmeric powder and salt till two whistles. Open lid when pressure has reduced and mash a bit. Set aside. Grind garlic, green chillies and ginger to a paste. Heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds and as they begin to change colour, add onions. Sauté till onions turn light brown. Add tomatoes, red chilli powder, dhaniya powder and ground paste. Sauté till tomatoes are softened. Add spinach  and sauté for four to five minutes. Add cooked daal and one cup of water. Stir well and bring to a boil. Adjust salt. Cook for four to five minutes, stirring continuously. Now prepare a tempering of red chilli ,crushed cloves and asafoetida  and pour over the daal.Serve hot with rice.
